Students in Senior Secondary (Years 11/12) have the option to take part in a variety of Vocational Education programs as part of their studies. VCAL students are required to participate in a variety of these programs in order to meet their curriculum outcomes.

Vocational education and training (VET) enables students to acquire skills and knowledge for work through a nationally recognised industry-developed training package or accredited course. VET is delivered, assessed, and certified by registered training organisations (RTOs).

Undertaking VET may benefit students’ exploration of a variety of career pathways; it is not just reserved for a pathway within the trades (e.g. plumbing, automotive, and construction). Students can complete VET qualifications in a diverse range of industries, including business administration, veterinary nursing, aged care, or sport and recreation.

Why study VET?

VET is an excellent choice of study for many students. It always includes practical, hands-on learning, and it can lead to excellent jobs in many fields.

Studying VET as part of VCAL gives students a head start on a qualification, which is a great way to fast-track progress towards a rewarding career, while also developing independence and time-management skills.

Eligible students may also have the chance Get a head start into the career of your choice while they complete their VCAL. An SBAT will give you the option of combining part-time employment and training with your schooling. In order to undertake an SBAT you will need an employer just like when you do a full apprenticeship. Your SBAT will also become an integral part of your secondary school education so you will need to get your training plan approved by your school as well as the Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority (VRQA). With an SBAT you will complete the first year of your apprenticeship over two years.
